- 10 years ago - I was 24, with a 1-year-old son. I was living in a suburb of Houston, Texas, and packing for the move to Oregon and hoping to never see that dreadful, blighted, bumpkin-poxed, oil-smelly, fiery hellpit again in my lifetime.
- 5 years ago - I was living in Portland, working in emergency medical response, and not getting much sleep, but I was generally enjoying life.
- 1 year ago - I was dealing with the sudden onset of D's illness, job-hunting, and worrying myself to pieces.
- yesterday - A fairly dull day, I worked, read, spoke on the phone with my mother...nothing outside the routine.
- tomorrow - Tomorrow is another work day for me. I usually head downtown early on Fridays and pop into some of the more interesting shops or stop for lunch before I head in to work.
- 5 snacks I enjoy - hummus & pita/celery, animal crackers, good chocolate, pineapple, organic blue cheese cheese puffs
- 5 bands/artists that I know the lyrics to most of their songs - Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, Sinead O'Connor, Roy Orbison, Nirvana (hard not to at my particular age)
- 5 things I would do with a $100,000,000 - college fund for my son, fund my own way through a doctorate, travel extensively, plan and build my own home somewhere less warm, perhaps start a philanthropic non-profit (for research or charitable endeavor) unit
- 5 locations I would like to run away to - Crete, Hungary, an urban area of Canada, an undisclosed location in The Netherlands/Norway/Iceland/Denmark, this non-existent house that's shown up in my dreams since I was a child
- 5 bad habits I have - over-analyzing things, self-criticism, hot temper I keep in until it's too late, impatience (I was much more patient in my youth.), hermit tendencies
- 5 things I like doing - reading, listening to music, trying new restaurants/foods, scouring thrift shops/antique stores, having a chance to be very aggressively physical with others I don't fear hurting (No, that's not an attempt at ennuendo. I need to take up some form of very physical exercise/sport to channel my aggressions and center myself, I think. I used to bale hay and set fence posts with the guys growing up, and that was very cathartic.)
- 5 things I would never wear - Birkenstocks, fake fingernails, tube top, anything that says "Princess" in glitter-on-pink, spandex
- 5 t.v. shows I like(d) - The X-Files, The Daily Show, James Burke's "Connections" series, The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross, MacGyver
- 5 movies I like - Of course, choosing only 5 is impossible, but the first 5 that come to mind are: His Girl Friday, Memento, Blade Runner, Tampopo, Pi
- 5 famous people I would Like to meet - This doesn't specify living or dead, and I tend to like dead people. Hypatia of Alexandria, Daniel O'Connell, (Because we're related, among other things.) Mileva Einstein (Her hubby can come, too, if he likes.), Joseph Campbell, Hehaka Sapa (aka Black Elk). (Soooo many more...not fair. Trung Trac and Trung Nhi, Merit Ptah, Christine Di Pizan, William Blake, Hedy Lamarr, Ada Lovelace, Roger Zelazny, Elizabeth Blackwell, Henry Miller, Thomas Jefferson, Anne Bonney...dozens of authors and artists and philosophers and historians...) Living: Peace Pilgrim, the Dali Lama, Nick Bantock, Jimmy Carter, several dozen authors and artists (cop-out...)
- 5 biggest joys at the moment - cool breezes, alone time, instrospection, reading, watching my son become a teenager (also one of my biggest fears at the moment)
- 5 favorite toys - the local library, cd player, computer, DVD player married to Netflix, deck of cards
